When to apply for Student Loan?

I am going to college in the Spring 2012 and am not sure when to apply for student loans, i am waiting to find out which school I will even be going to! I am also not sure when you take out a student loan, do you take out enough for a year or your whole college terms?

If you’re looking to get federal financial aid, you need to submit your FAFSA (Free Attention for Federal Student Aid) straight away. It doesn’t matter if you haven’t applied or been accepted to a college yet. There’s a section on the attention to tell them which schools you’re applying to; be sure to include them all. It’s late in the year to be applying at this point (you should have gotten this done back in March at the latest), so you probably won’t get a Pell grant, but you should still be able to get loans.

In your case, you’ll just get aid for the spring semester since we’re already into the 2011-2012 school year. You’ll have to reapply for aid in January for the 2012-2013 school year starting next fall.

The ONLY legitimate site for federal student aid is http://fafsa.ed.gov. Make sure it’s the .gov site- there are some fake scam sites out there.

How soon should I apply for a student loan?

The question

I am finishing the next 2 semesters at a Junior College, when Im finished I am applying at a University. Right now I have a pell grant that will pay for my next 2 semesters, and I hope to get them when I go to the University, but I know I will need to get a student loan to help pay for some of it. My question is, how long do I wait to apply for one if I hope to start in the Fall of 2012?

Hi, I’m really worried that I might have waited too long to start applying for student loans and scholarships for college. I’m going to be a senior next year and I’m Class of 2012. When would be the best time for me to start applying for financial aid? Is it already too late for me?
